This year, the Hong Kong Arts Centre announced that "Collect Hong Kong" will be established as a regular project to continuously support the development of the local art industry. The "Collect Hong Kong" Art Expo 2026 will be held at the Pao's Gallery, Chang Jinglan Experimental Gallery, the Jockey Club Gallery and the Arts Area of the Hong Kong Arts Centre from March 21 to March 29, 2026, with more than 500 works on display, becoming one of the highlights of Hong Kong's "Art March" events. The opening ceremony of the "Collect Hong Kong" Art Expo 2026 was held at the Hong Kong Arts Centre on March 20. Guests included government officials, including Mr. LIU Zhen, Deputy Director of the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, and Mr.霍啟剛, Chairman of the Hong Kong Arts Development Council, and other celebrities gathered here to kick off the "Collect Hong Kong" Art Expo 2026.
Mr. Liu Wenbang, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Hong Kong Arts Centre, said in his opening speech: "Thanks to the strong support of local artists this year, the number of works collected this year has hit a new high, doubling that of last year. In addition, we hope to promote the culture of art appreciation and collection, expand the community of local art collectors, improve the art ecosystem and create a healthy and sustainable development environment. The Hong Kong Arts Centre is committed to interacting with the community, promoting creativity and cultural dialogue, and integrating art into the lives of the public. Collect Hong Kong plays an important role in realizing this vision. Next year, the Arts Centre will usher in the 50th anniversary milestone, and we will continue to work hard to make art an important link in the city's culture."
The increase in the number of exhibits highlights the diversity of Hong Kong's art scene
A total of more than 500 artworks were exhibited at the "Collect Hong Kong" Art Expo 2026, with the participation of more than 280 local artists, including famous artists and a number of emerging artists with great potential. The artistic media exhibited this time include paintings, ceramics, photography, 3D printing, sculptures, installations and mixed media, which fully demonstrate the talent and talent of the local art world.
The first establishment of the four major theme exhibition areas displays works of different ages in a new form of Hong Kong's cross-generation art and cultural stories
This year, the Hong Kong Arts Centre specially invited Mr. Mok Wai-hong, a senior art consultant (Gary Mok), to take charge of the curatorship. The art fair is divided into four major theme exhibition areas for the first time, including "Collector's Collection", "Master Collection", "Jury Recommendation" and "Hong Kong Art Collection", presenting local art treasures in an innovative form. "Collector's Collection" will lead the audience to trace the origin of Hong Kong art through the collections of multiple collectors and master-level works; among them, the works of Ding Fangyong, Mai Xiyang and He Fan will be exhibited, which is extremely precious. "Master Collection" brings together the works of senior artists and emerging creators from galleries from the 70's and 80's, including famous artists Gao Shaokang, Mo Yixin, Xu Kaiqiao, Feng Juanxue, etc., showing the artistic achievements and creations displayed in different eras; "Jury Recommendation" focuses on the art masterpieces carefully selected by the curator and the jury committee from the publicly submitted shortlisted works, highlighting the creative power of the new generation; while "Hong Kong Art Collection" presents the publicly submitted shortlisted artworks with a forward-looking vision through the perspective of the professional jury, bringing a three-dimensional art experience. Speaking of the quality of the works this year, Mok Wai-hong said, "Collect Hong Kong" represents the appreciation and collection of Hong Kong art. It is not only a gathering of artworks, but also focuses on the Hong Kong soul and spirit of the times injected by artists in their creations. True art lovers collect artistic creations with practical actions, which is a respect and encouragement to artists, and also an important driving force for the development of art. Collect Hong Kong is committed to providing exhibition space and trading opportunities to promote the healthy circulation of Hong Kong's art ecosystem. As local art gradually receives attention, more people will pay attention to and invest in Hong Kong art in the future, contributing more voices to local art, and promoting the recognition and development of Hong Kong art. It is hoped that Collect Hong Kong will become a must-visit expo in Hong Kong's Art March, attracting more artists to participate in the exhibition and the public to buy Hong Kong artworks."
This year, a group of little docents led guests to explore the various exhibition areas, appreciate artworks in different media, and tell Hong Kong's cultural stories from a unique and innovative perspective, continuing cultural inheritance and innovation.
The online platform added last year will continue this year to provide global art collectors with the opportunity to select and purchase Hong Kong artworks, bringing local art to different parts of the world, promoting cross-regional art appreciation, continuing multi-angle cultural dialogues, and making the Hong Kong Arts Centre an important promoter of Hong Kong's art ecosystem.
